Cristina Varsavsky holds an education focused position and is currently Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Science at Monash University. Her interests in the scholarship of learning and teaching include broad areas of mathematics and science education. Her current and recent national Office for Learning and Teaching projects include WIL in Science (a project on work integrated learning within the science curriculum), mathsassess (a project on mathematics assessment), and REMSTEP (a four-institution project to reconceptualise science teacher education).

Janine Sprakel is Program Manager, AMSI Schools at the Australian Mathematical Sciences Institute. She leads CHOOSEMATHS, a careers awareness, mentoring, professional development and schools visit program across the country. CHOOSEMATHS is a five-year project, working with the BHP Foundation, designed to encourage more students, particularly girls and young women to stick with mathematics. Through clusters of schools supported by industry and government partners, Janine’s aim is to encourage more Australians to enjoy and study mathematics.

Dr. Harry Wiggins is a lecturer at the Department of Mathematics and Applied Mathematics at the University of Pretoria, South Africa. His research focuses on the challenges of teaching and learning mathematics at a tertiary level. Interested topics include student transitioning from high school to university by evaluating students readiness to cope with first year mathematics, exciting ways to enrich topics taught in the undergraduate mathematics syllabus and how students handle the abstractness of proofs seen in various mathematics courses.

Professor Chris Matthews, a Noonuccal man, is passionate about connecting culture and mathematics, having developed a method of teaching maths to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students through dance and story. He teaches students to bring maths to life by crafting stories in which characters take actions that add, subtract or divide. As Chair of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Mathematics Alliance (ATSIMA), Professor Matthews organises camps and conferences designed to promote Indigenous participation in STEM and to support mathematics outcomes for Indigenous students.

Chris Sangwin is Professor of Technology Enhanced Science Education at the University of Edinburgh. His interests include automatic assessment of mathematics using computer algebra, in particular the STACK system, and problem solving using Moore method and similar student-centred approaches. In 2006 he was awarded a National Teaching Fellowship. Chris is the author of "Computer Aided Assessment of Mathematics" and "How Round is Your Circle", which illustrates and investigates many links between mathematics and engineering using physical models.

Tanya is a lecturer in the Department of Mathematics at the University of Auckland. Her research interests include the design of new modes of delivery in higher education utilising affordances of technological advances (e.g. flipped classroom, blended-learning). Tanya is particularly interested in the professional development of teaching staff and conducts research on an intra-departmental content-focussed professional development project, in which colleagues have the opportunity both to observe others teach and examine their own lecturing practice.
